Education as an opportunity
At Theodor König Comprehensive School, an integrated comprehensive school in Duisburg, Haniel Foundation project »Education as an Opportunity« has brought together supporters of different approaches. Here, they all work together to support the integration of disadvantaged pupils into the everyday school routine.
‘Creating educational opportunities and shaping integration’
In Germany, a child’s education is dependent upon its family background. This is what motivated Franz Haniel to set up a school and a fund for talented children in Ruhrort in his home town of Duisburg in 1856. And this is what motivates us to this day: with our sights set on creating educational opportunities and shaping integration, we support children and adolescents who have had a difficult start in life.
We are an EDUCATION FOUNDATION. We address current and urgent issues from the field of education by enabling people to tackle these challenges in the entrepreneurial spirit and for the common good.
Offering people prospects, promoting ideas
Targeted and sustainable: the Haniel Foundation wants its projects to have the biggest possible impact. To this end, it focuses on networking and partnerships with and between cooperative partners. It provides development stimuli and sees projects through to their sustainable establishment. The not-for-profit foundation currently donates around two million euros a year in funding to its focal areas of educational opportunities and the promotion of future generations.
What are our focal areas? What’s the story with growth and funding? Together with experts, the Haniel Foundation reviews its work and its strategic focus every five years. Good foundation practice includes transparency, clear and binding operating principles and the publishing of our principles.
Acting with foresight and taking social aspects into account – this is a principle that the grandchild of the company founder Franz Haniel was already pursuing in order to increase the value of the company and to take on social responsibility.
‘Strengthening future managers and the image of entrepreneurs within society’
The Haniel Foundation stands for value-oriented entrepreneurship – out of a sense of tradition and conviction. Focusing on sustainable ideas and creative approaches to societal change, we promote talented up-and-coming managers.
